There Is Always A Choice, But One Master Will Prevail

In Kenya, amongst the Agikuyu tribe, there is a proverb that goes: ‘mugarura igiri ndagaga igucura’ (one who is cooking two pots at ago will have one of them burn). This was and is used to warn people who are undertaking two chores simultaneously and especially things that are not correlated at all… studying and watching movie. The reality is true because the two tasks that one is engaging in will require total concentration and energy and attention as well as time. Life is full of choices to make and Billy Graham had it well when he used to say that ‘indecision is a choice and a decision too’. But even in saying so, an individual has to make a stand because it is either you are in the stand of A or B, or…. Depending on the choices given but at the end one will have to stand for something.

We make decisions on what models of car we want to own, the furniture we want to have, whether we want to report to work on a certain day or not, the attire to have amongst others. It is worth noting that all these choices have what gives them a preference and the conditions around them as well as the consequences… choices have consequences.  At times we ignore and overlook and suppress the prevailing conditions so that we can take the options of that which makes us feel good. And this is so because one will not take the two or several choices and options at ago. One master will prevail.

Mt 6:24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. (NKJV). God has created us, human beings, with freewill so that we can be able to make choices of our own which makes us different from machines. The desire and the will of God is that we may live for Him, choose Him and do the right things. Once one has purposed to love God with all their soul, mind and spirit then it will be easier to conduct ourselves in a manner worth of Him; a choice and decision He cannot force anyone to take against their will. To be a believer, a non-believer, an atheist, an agnostic, amongst others are choices that we make.

The man Joseph who was a dreamer had an issue with brothers which saw him being in the land of Egypt. Potiphar’s wife saw desired to lure him to have sex with her because she desired him so much. After all no one could have seen or known it. This, I believe, could have earned him more favours with ease because Potiphar had a rank in that land. Am also sure, by the same mean that he would have gained those favours would Joseph had maintained them. But, he chose the route of God. Ge 39:9 “There is no one greater in this house than I, nor has he kept back anything from me but you, because you are his wife. How then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” (NKJV). Joshua when speaking to the Israelites had this to say to them Jos 24:15 “And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” (NKJV).  Our lives are worship. It is a matter of the master we are choosing to serve. We cannot serve because we’ll have to let go off one and embrace the other. It is either we serve God or Satan but not both. It doesn’t matter how we camouflage and baptize it, we are under one.

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man–and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. Ro 1:18-32. Thus, the preference of those that choose to the hate God is not the absence of enough evidence of Him and who He is but the suppression of the available evidence… this creates a room for self-freedom in doing what pleases the individual. The reality is that whatever is not of God is of the devil.

The conclusion of the matter is, in life, there is nothing like sitting on the fence and taking the two option at ago, it is either you are of God or of the devil. This is because choices will always be there but one master will prevail. De 30:19-20 “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; that you may love the LORD your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the LORD swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”
