When war is mentioned, it really raises the eyebrows of many people. This is so because in one way or another they have either experienced the first hand impacts or read the impacts of war. Additionally, the reaction of a normal person cannot be compared to the reaction of the soldier themselves. These reactions are so because everyone knows that warfare and war zones are not a walk in the park. It is a matter of life and death. Victory in a warfare is dependent on how well the soldier is prepared, the equipping, how well they are informed amongst others. It worth noting that the Defence forces of every nation are ever preparing and prepared, equipped and equipping and so on so that when the time for war comes, they will be in a position to face the enemies; not for leisure but for a win/ victory, otherwise they will nourish worms within no time.
Retreating is not surrendering, hence soldiers do not always win. They keep on retreating and attacking again till they win. The retreating is an opportunity to strategize and go back to the drawing board and attack the enemies again. Warfare didn’t emerge in 21st century but goes back to the olden time. The times of the great kings of Israel and even before. Warriors and kings like David who was a man of sword and fought many battles and taking victory after victory. Of the most popular one was the special weapon: the sling and the stone which he used to kill the philistine’s hero, Goliath. Samson who was a mighty man of valor and distinction used a donkey’s jaw to kill a thousand. The likes of Joshua, Caleb and others are men who fought with courage and victory was their portion. These men had something in common: they trusted in Jehovah for their victory in the battles they engaged in.
The coming of our Lord and redeemer Christ Jesus has taken the battle to a step higher especially in the model of engagement. Ephesians 6:10-18: Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints. This is to illustrate that the battle is mostly spiritual.
Every military unit has a commander. Thus, the commandos act with his direction and orders. Thus, Jehovah is the commander in when it comes to fighting the spiritual battles. As a matter of fact, He has already won the battle on our behalf. He has laid down our commands which we are to follow for us to win this battle physically, the Bible. Every physical battle has its genesis in the spiritual realm. Immorality, tribalism, racism, drug and substance abuse amongst others are physical with their origin in the spiritual realm. It is all about whom we are taking instructions from. It is catastrophic to fight spiritual battles physically. Doing so will only appease the battles for a while. He who is a believer in the Lordship of Christ Jesus and His atonement is a conqueror for He lives in us and has already laid the victory before us. There will be ups and downs in any case but when we allow the commander to play His role, then we will win irrespective of the time span it takes. Above all, to take instructions from a commander you must belong to his military unit. Thus, to everyone who want to be of Christ’s Unit must belong to His unit. This will only happen by accepting His sacrifice on the cross; believing in His atonement and accepting His Lordship. All of us have equal opportunity because no one is rejected by Him if we come to Him. Taste and see that He is good. Invite Him into your life and see the difference.
