True Loyalty

Loyalty is the state or quality or state of being loyal; fidelity to a superior or duty, love. It is the act of binding oneself (intellectually or emotionally) to a course of action. It is generally the feeling of allegiance. The reverse and opposite of this is betrayal and abandonment. Loyalty establishes a link between the partakers involved. Loyalty is key among and between couples, friends, organization, associations, etc. betray to a friend is the worst thing one could do to those whom that they have trusted. The establishment of loyalty is established via various methods. In Kenya, we have the loyalty pledge whose some of the words are, ‘I pledge my loyalty to the president and the nation of Kenya…’ Which illustrates that all Kenyans are to pledge loyalty to the CEO of Kenya and the nation at large. It sounds good, doesn’t it? But is that the case on the ground where by tribalism, rampage, looting of public funds, trading of justice, exploitation amongst others? This is an act of pinning people’s hearts.

This is an all-world experience: betrayal. Our own Lord Jesus Christ was a victim of betray from one of His own, Judas Iscariot with whom He had spent three years. Irrespective of that, He had the eleven who maintained their course of allegiance to Him. An old testament by the name Daniel who had true allegiance to God. Being in the land of exile, Babylon, he stood to his call of worship and duty to serve his purpose amid the vast challenges that were there. The king had ordered that they should be indoctrinated with the Babylonian literature. But in the course of all this, he remained faithful to God irrespective of the repercussion that would arise of his lifestyle of failing to conform to the patterns of the Babylonian rue. In the same time was the three friends of Daniel: Meshack, Shadrack and Abednego. The threat of being furnace or being served as meal to lions did not change their loyalty to God. The Disciples of Christ Jesus after His departure took the course of advancing the Gospel after that which they had experienced and witnessed of the Lord Christ Jesus which was a root cause of that which they experienced later on. This was included of facing tyrant rule which killed many, all of them, but they would not give up on the believe in the person of Christ Jesus. This brings forth the beautiful song:

I pledge allegiance to the Lamb, with all my strength, with all I am, I will seek to honor His commands, I pledge allegiance to the Lamb

I have heard how Christians long ago, were brought before a tyrants throne, they were told that he would spare their lives, If they would renounce the name of Christ, But one by one, they chose to die, The Son of God, they would not deny, like a great angelic choir sings, I can almost hear their voices ring

I pledge allegiance to the Lamb, with all my strength, with all I am, I will seek to honor His commands, I pledge allegiance to the Lamb, Now, the years have come and the years have gone, and the ’cause of Jesus still goes on, Now, our time has come to count the cost, to reject this world, to embrace the Cross

And one by one let us live our lives, For the One who died to give us life, Till the trumpet sounds on the final day, Let us gladly stand and boldly say, I pledge allegiance to the Lamb, with all my strength, with all I am, I will seek to honor His commands, I pledge allegiance to the Lamb

To the Lamb of God who bore my pain, who took my place, who wore my shame, I will seek to honor His commands, I pledge allegiance to the Lamb, I pledge allegiance to the Lamb, with all my strength, with all I am, I will seek to honor His commands, I pledge allegiance to the Lamb.

Jesus Christ presented to us a model of allegiance and loyalty. Irrespective of Him being aware of the sufferings awaiting Him, He never changed His mind no matter what. He remained faithful to the course so as to bring salvation and redemption to mankind. He had a big image of what He was to bring to the universe. The disciples saw the bigger image, living for God and serving Him and worshipping Him eternally. They saw the crown of life

When we give ourselves to God, he comes and dwells within us. He reward them that seek Him diligently (Hebrews 11:6). This is the part of our effort. Grace is not opposed to effort, but earning. The allegiance of men can shift based on various issues and circumstances but the allegiance to God will never fail.  He has already proved to humanity that he can be trusted and tats what he is looking in us. He expects us to be true to His call. We’ve been given a chance to trust in Him and experience His faithfulness for He will help us to stand. We are called to pledge our allegiance to the Lord.

The War Is Shifted

When war is mentioned, it really raises the eyebrows of many people. This is so because in one way or another they have either experienced the first hand impacts or read the impacts of war. Additionally, the reaction of a normal person cannot be compared to the reaction of the soldier themselves. These reactions are so because everyone knows that warfare and war zones are not a walk in the park. It is a matter of life and death. Victory in a warfare is dependent on how well the soldier is prepared, the equipping, how well they are informed amongst others. It worth noting that the Defence forces of every nation are ever preparing and prepared, equipped and equipping and so on so that when the time for war comes, they will be in a position to face the enemies; not for leisure but for a win/ victory, otherwise they will nourish worms within no time.

Retreating is not surrendering, hence soldiers do not always win. They keep on retreating and attacking again till they win. The retreating is an opportunity to strategize and go back to the drawing board and attack the enemies again. Warfare didn’t emerge in 21st century but goes back to the olden time. The times of the great kings of Israel and even before. Warriors and kings like David who was a man of sword and fought many battles and taking victory after victory. Of the most popular one was the special weapon: the sling and the stone which he used to kill the philistine’s hero, Goliath. Samson who was a mighty man of valor and distinction used a donkey’s jaw to kill a thousand. The likes of Joshua, Caleb and others are men who fought with courage and victory was their portion. These men had something in common: they trusted in Jehovah for their victory in the battles they engaged in.

The coming of our Lord and redeemer Christ Jesus has taken the battle to a step higher especially in the model of engagement. Ephesians 6:10-18: Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints. This is to illustrate that the battle is mostly spiritual.

Every military unit has a commander. Thus, the commandos act with his direction and orders.  Thus, Jehovah is the commander in when it comes to fighting the spiritual battles. As a matter of fact, He has already won the battle on our behalf. He has laid down our commands which we are to follow for us to win this battle physically, the Bible.  Every physical battle has its genesis in the spiritual realm. Immorality, tribalism, racism, drug and substance abuse amongst others are physical with their origin in the spiritual realm. It is all about whom we are taking instructions from. It is catastrophic to fight spiritual battles physically. Doing so will only appease the battles for a while.  He who is a believer in the Lordship of Christ Jesus and His atonement is a conqueror for He lives in us and has already laid the victory before us. There will be ups and downs in any case but when we allow the commander to play His role, then we will win irrespective of the time span it takes. Above all, to take instructions from a commander you must belong to his military unit. Thus, to everyone who want to be of Christ’s Unit must belong to His unit. This will only happen by accepting His sacrifice on the cross; believing in His atonement and accepting His Lordship. All of us have equal opportunity because no one is rejected by Him if we come to Him. Taste and see that He is good.  Invite Him into your life and see the difference.

Learning it God’s Way

When God has something to teach He sends me a teacher. Ever thought of the impact of love. It is easy to show and to extend love. I must confess that this is only easy when it comes to the aspect of love with relation to our family members; may be our wives, dads, children, pals and everybody else who is so close to us. But, what about those people who are not in any way close to us? Those strangers whom we little know about or who know us not. Especially when we don’t share ideologies or they even hate us? How we then ought to replicate or how do we tackle the whole issue?

Since the beginning, God has always been the God of love. In this case I am talking about Yahweh the creator of heaven and earth. No wonder the bible says that out of it He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16-21). His major concern is that none of us should be condemned or perish. Thus, He came to that level for us to understand His love towards us. There is a vast evidence of testimonials in the bible and nature itself that illustrates the love of God. Just but to mention the pilgrimage of Israelites from Egypt to Canaan to Babylon, amongst many others.

The expectation of God upon us is that we will reciprocate the same to other people including those that we know and those that we don’t. You note that Jesus through his love irrespective of the ill experience from the people of different perspective didn’t give up and as a result of this he continued the push. He was tenacious and endured it all. Men were reconciled to God and an opportunity is granted unto us all to seek God and all this is the fruit of love.

Love ought to be both theoretical and practical. It has to be talked about and expressed practically. James in his epistle writes to us that faith without actions is dead and so is love. Loving for any negative motive is not love but hypocrisy. Many may just have read but never knew Christ personally yet He died for all. We who are believers in the atonement and lordship of Christ Jesus have known who He is and this forms part of our mandate as to what instruction he left to us in Mathew 18:18-20. We know that there is something good found in the believing of our lord Jesus Christ and that’s the reason why we must be the image of Christ here on earth. We are not bound to colour of the skin, nation, tribe, boundary, etc. we are to be Christ like whereby our concern is to see all come to the knowledge of Christ who is the way to God the father.

Think of a man trying to reach a fellow man or workmate with the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and he keeps on being rejected because his skin is dark. The magnitude of racism. It takes longsuffering and patient heart to reach out to the same person with the awareness of the result. When God want to teach, He’ll bring us the teacher our way or the source of that lesson. The person could be exhibit every manner that’s opposite of that which God want us to learn. They may hate, be stubborn, nagging, impatience amongst others. However, within time the person changes their heart and they are receptive; giving an ear. A time comes when they need an organ donation or even a critical assistance and you bring them to their knees at the foot of the cross through the assistance. If love is to be mentioned in us, then we must connect to the source of the love and that’s God and that will only be so via the acceptance of the atonement and lordship of Jesus Christ. At the mention of love, Grace will be made mention too. Once we connect to the source, from us shall there rise rivers of these two.

The sensitization here is that we must be quick to learn and understand when and how God is on the move. Above all, we must be keen to listen to the conviction of the HolySpirit.
